Description | Lorenzo Tiepolo (died August 15, 1275) was Doge of Venice from 1268 until his death. For over a thousand years, the leader and head magistrate of the Venetian Empire (also known as "The Most Serene Republic of Venice" was the Doge. The title "Doge" is derived from the Latin word Dux, which eventually became Duce in Italy and Duke to the English.
